  4. Word Frequency Analysis

HI Heather, I have a question about word cloud. i'd like my word cloud to show the whole phrase rather than one word. In FAQ, i learnt that you need to edit the word list and add a ~ between two words. For example: lorem~ipsum. https://www.wordclouds.com/faq/ I just dont' understand where and how to edit the "word list"? i edited my source and added ~ between the words but that didn't change the word cloud. Thanks Heather, i really appreciate your help. cheers, M
  5. By default, query results seem to be sorted by source file. Is it possible to sort results by node, when doing a query with multiple nodes?
  6. Email import

    Thanks, this helps! SCW
  7. Email import

Hi SCW, What you can do is merge the cases together. For example, If you have two cases for the one person User1 and user-1, which you want to merge, you can right-click the one you don’t want to keep, and select Cut. Next, right-click the other case that has been created for the same user and select Merge Into Selected Case. If you import more emails you may find you have to repeat this process if the second case for the same user is created again. Cheers, Tane
  8. Email import

Hi, I am new to NVIVO, so please bear with me if I have overseen something. I have the following problem: 10 emails imported from outlook through drag-and-drog, but as many people send answers from different accounts, I would need to merge two email adresses as they are currently treated as two seperate people. How do I do that? Thanks. SCW
  9. Screen scaling on high DPI displays

I managed to solve this problem myself - I didn't hear back from QSR Support. This is a font scaling problem that is related specifically to Windows 10. It does not appear to be an issue on Windows 8.1. Two possible solutions: Use a small utility called XPExplorer to force Windows 10 to use WIndows 8.1 scaling method (can be downloaded at http://windows10_dpi_blurry_fix.xpexplorer.com/); or Set shortcut compatibility mode for NVivo to "Override high DPI scaling behaviour. Scaling performed by:" and select "Application" from drop-down menu.

  12. Hello I am conducting research using Instagram and I wondered what the best way was to capture the images and text and import into Nvivo.
  13. Grouping attribute values

Hi Rachel, If do not have a parent case in Cases folder, could you choose 'existing case' in Step 2 and select the parent case? If the issue persists, please submit a support request via http://www.qsrinternational.com/customer-support as we may require your project file for investigation. Regards, Bhupesh
  14. Cases not displaying

    Any QSR employees out there?
  15. View from cases and nodes viewpoint

Hi Camilla, You can turn on the node aggregation for parent node Women to see coding references from all child nodes. Refer to the link below: http://help-nv11mac.qsrinternational.com/desktop/procedures/aggregate_nodes.htm You can also export your Node list and Coding References to a Word document to refine and review. http://help-nv11mac.qsrinternational.com/desktop/procedures/export_project_items.htm I hope this is helpful. Kind Regards, Bhupesh
  16. Working with a file that consists of 3 merged datasets - mine (which serves as the master) and two other people who are using other individual licenses to code copies of the master. When merging copies we have been merging only for the specific sources the two other staff have coded, and I have not been coding those sources. When I run a coding query to look for only coding by either of the other two coders (and not me) for specific nodes, the query gives me ALL coding references for the requested node(s), including ones I only coded, not just the ones coded only by others. Wondering if something in the merge operation prevents the coding query from giving me only the requested coding references?
  17. Grouping attribute values

I did not re import the spreadsheet, I selected "classify cases from dataset" and using the group function created the new attribute. I would think NVivo should recognize that the new attribute applies to the cases I already have, since I have not changed the spreadsheet. In step 2 of the classify cases from dataset wizard, I have been asking it to classify an existing folder, and selecting "cases", which does not work. I just tried creating new cases under a new folder, which had the same issue, where the cases in the new folder had the new attribute, but no other values, while my original cases retained their original values, but did not have the new attribute.
  18. Cases not displaying

Hi, A bit of background and then my question. I have set up my research in the following way: - I created 35 sources. - I created 35 case nodes from those sources. - I created a classification called "church" with about a dozen attributes and classified each of the case nodes as "church." - When I choose "get info" for the individual case nodes, I can see that they are all classified as "church," and have attributes associated with them. When I go to case classifications and double click on "church," it only pulls up four results. But if I control-click on the same classification and choose export, then I get results from all of my cases. Am I missing something? Why is it not displaying all of the cases? Is this a database error? Is there a way to fix it? Here is a screen shot. https://www.dropbox.com/s/7mc4av3tbk3oumh/Screen Shot 2017-09-08 at 5.05.17 AM.png?dl=0
  19. Grouping attribute values

Hello RachelS, It appears you are re importing the spreadsheet with the range coded values and adding it to the same case classification which is setting all the other attribute values of your cases to unassigned. Please ensure the spreadsheet which has the column for range coded values has the same name for your Cases as the original file and then import this spreadsheet as a classification sheet in your project. Refer to the below help link for information on importing classification sheets in NVivo 11: http://help-nv11.qsrinternational.com/desktop/procedures/import_(or_export)_classification_sheets.htm Ensure the first row of the file that you are importing as classification sheet has the name of the existing case classification in your NVivo project. In Step 2 of the 'Import Classification Sheets wizard', tick the check box for 'Create new attributes if they do not exist' and keep the other options unticked. In Step 3 of the wizard, select 'As names' and select the location of the folder where your cases are stored in the project. Also, untick the option for 'Create new cases if they do not exist'. You should then have the new attribute value for range coded column assigned to your existing cases without changing the existing attribute values of the cases. I hope this helps. Regards, Rahul
  20. I am working in Nvivo 11 Pro. I am trying to recode an attribute value, test scores, into ranges of ten. My project contains interviews and a survey of demographics and test scores. I have coded each interview to one case, and the cases also have all of their demographic data and test scores from the survey data. The problem is when I tried to group the test scores into ranges and create a new attribute. NVivo keeps creating copies of all the cases (i.e. Smith (2)). The copy of each case has the attribute with the test score recoded into a range, but all the other attribute values are listed as unassigned. The original cases have all the attribute values that came in with the survey data, but the new recoded test score attribute is listed as unassigned. I can go into the case properties and select the value from the drop down menu, but I don't want to do this for each individual case. How do I get NVivo to recode the test scores assign these values to the cases I already have, instead of copying them all?
  21. Hi Walter, NVivo currently does not support spreading the coding to only the surrounding paragraph. I have passed your suggestion to our product team for consideration in future versions of NVivo. The current spread coding options in NVivo 11 can be accessed at: http://help-nv11.qsrinternational.com/desktop/deep_concepts/spread_coding.htm Regards, Rahul
  22. List/Chart of Nodes for a Group of Sources

Hello Phil, You may run a Group query in NVivo 11 to find nodes that are associated with the specific sources in your project. Please refer to the below help link for more information: http://help-nv11.qsrinternational.com/desktop/procedures/run_a_group_query.htm You can also add the desired sources into a search folder to be set as the scope of a query. See: http://help-nv11.qsrinternational.com/desktop/concepts/about_collections.htm#MiniTOCBookMark4 You may also consider creating source classifications in your NVivo project: http://help-nv11.qsrinternational.com/desktop/concepts/about_classifications.htm and then chart the coding by attribute value for multiple sources: http://help-nv11.qsrinternational.com/desktop/concepts/about_charts.htm#MiniTOCBookMark3 I hope this helps. Regards, Rahul
  23. Help Please: coding done manually and now what?

Thank you very much for your advice and help Rahul. I appreciate the time you took to reply to my query and I will follow the links as suggested . Thanks again. Delia
  24. Help Please: coding done manually and now what?

Hello Delia, Please find our answers & suggestions for your questions below:1. NVivo currently does not have any way of showing how a node has changed over a period of coding. Once you have done a certain amount of coding to a node, you may run a Matrix Coding query between your node and sources and save the results of the Matrix Coding query as a node matrix. Please refer to the below help link for more information:http://help-nv11mac.qsrinternational.com/desktop/procedures/manage_query_results.htm#MiniTOCBookMark4You will then be able to manually look at the different node matrices and see how the node has changed over a period of coding information.2. When you code the same information to a theme node and a case node, the two are linked with the coded text. Please feel free to see the below help link for more information:http://help-nv11mac.qsrinternational.com/desktop/concepts/understand_the_key_concepts.htm#MiniTOCBookMark4If you run a query to look for coding based on an attribute value of one of your cases, the theme nodes that code the information which is coded to the case with the specified attribute, will also show up. See: http://help-nv11mac.qsrinternational.com/desktop/procedures/run_a_coding_query.htm3. If some information is coded from to a case to a theme node, the coding in the theme node is still linked back to the source file which is the expected behavior with NVivo.I hope this helps.Regards,Rahul
  25. Hello, I am a little bit new to NVivo and have a question about how to get the broader picture when I have doe all the coding. I have many pages of qualitative interview and observation notes about free-time uses. I have coded the texts by different free-time uses, I have made a case for each informant and then I have grouped several cases under a higher, broader case - for example, I have put all the female cases under the upper case "Women". Now my dream would be to click on each upper case (such as "Women", containing the cases of all female informants and their coded portions of text) and see the codes and the text excerpts under this case. Is this or some similar view possible? Thank you for your kind attention! Regards, Camilla
  26. Hi All I'm not sure if this question has been answered already, so apologies in advance. How do I run a text search query and spread the coding to the surrounding sentence ONLY, i.e. from the capital letter...till the fullstop or question mark. Currently 'custom context' only allows me to select the surrounding paragraph, which in some cases means 3-5 sentences. Any help will be appreciated. Thx Walter
  27. Hi all, I have tried to find an answer to my query and have found a number of things similar to what I am looking for, but not quite the answer, so I am hoping someone might be able to help with my specific problem? I have used Nvivo to generate nodes across 91 academic papers. I can see which papers (sources) are related to which nodes, and by using the chart function, I can see all nodes that appear in a single source. However, I would like to see which nodes appear in a group of sources i.e. papers with the same academic background, which I can manually group/select. Ideally, I would like to be able to generate the same kind of chart that I have done for a single source, but for a group of sources - is this possible? The chart is not necessary though, so if there is a way to just generate a list of all nodes within a group of papers, that would be fine too (preferably with the percentage coverage included though). I hope that makes sense, but please do ask for more info if it is not clear. Thanks, Phil
