Coding query

5 posts in this topic

Hi there,

I'm working on a systematic review, and with Endnote material imported into NVivo for analysis. When Endnote material is imported the text of the abstract and bibliographic info is in Memos and these are linked to the source record in External sources. The coding was done to the external record and not to the text of the memo (although they are linked to that text) see attached screenshots. The issue now is that when we run coding queries they come up blank. I wonder if there is any fix for this. Is there a way to merge sources or copy coding do we just need to start over here.

Any ideas would be most welcome!

Thanks

Sara

Does your source show zero nodes and zero references? If so you may be experiencing the same issue I am, likely a misstep in project step-up. QSR advised zipping the file and submitting a support ticket: http://assets.qsrinternational.com/support-form/

However if just trying to run a standard query I've also had no luck with that, but matrix coding queries work fairly well.

Good luck!

Thanks so much for those tips Orionspants - you're a star! I'll do those things and keep my fingers crossed it works out.

Hi Sara,

Thanks for getting in touch with us. I can't seem to see your screenshots, but from what you've described this appears to be usual behaviour. External sources cannot be queried in a coding query. Please see http://help-nv10.qsrinternational.com/desktop/procedures/create_externals_for_sources_you_cannot_import.htm for more information on external sources.

I hope this helps. Please let me know if you have any questions.

Cheers,

Simon

Thanks Simon

That is unfortunate - it seems weird to be able to code there but not run coding queries. Are there any tips and tricks for copying coding over to the memos? Or is there any other way the coding can be usefully queried so that we can compare coding across nodes?

Thanks,

Sara
