Coding "upstream"

3 posts in this topic

Hello,

If I have a hierarchy of nodes like so (silly example);

1. Dessert

1.1 Trifle

1.1.1 Sherry trifle

1.2 Ice cream

1.2.1 chocolate ice cream

And I code something as being "chocolate ice cream", will it also be coded as "Ice cream" and "Dessert" ?

Is this what "aggregate coding from child nodes" does ion node properties.

Why is this turned off by default?

Thanks in advance,

Brian

Hi Brian,

By default, if you were to code to Chocolate Ice Cream, this text will only be coded to that one node. You are correct, that if you want this behavior you can turn on Aggregate coding from child nodes. When you turn this on a parent node, that node will now contain text that has been coded to it, and also to any of its immediate children nodes.

Coding aggregation isn’t always desired, so the option is there to turn it on if wanted, but is not enabled by default.

Please note in your example, in order for text coded to Chocolate Ice Cream to appear in the node Dessert, you will need to enable coding aggregation on Dessert, and Ice Cream. http://help-nv11.qsrinternational.com/desktop/procedures/aggregate_nodes.htm

Cheers,

Tane
