I use annotations only sometimes, and the pane at the bottom occupies valuable screen real estate.  I also don't remember shortcut keys.  To close the pane at the bottom I must move my mouse to the top of the screen, switch to the view tab, then click to uncheck the annotations box. Then return to the tab I was using (usually analyze).  It would be great if there were a little "x" on the annotation tab at the bottom of the screen - when you click on the "x", the annotation pane closes.  This would save several actions and be a bit more efficient.

You can put annotations and See Also Links (and anything else) in the Quick Access Toolbar and then just click on it wherever you are to turn it off.
