When I'm reading my pdf sources and coding them, the highlight color is not the same as the color for the node I've applied. They all come out yellow even though I have a coding scheme using 6 different colors. How do I make the highlighting match? If Nvivo can't do that, is it possible for nvivo to launch and external pdf editor and then reflect the changes upon save? I use the color aspect of nodes extensively but need the pdf highlighting to reflect that. Thanks!

Hi,

Node color scheme cannot be applied to highlights as Highlight color is static and cannot be changed. Also, NVivo isn't able to launch an external PDF editor and retain existing coding while changing the color in PDF.

As an alternative, you can use Coding Stripes to see your Nodes in color, showing the coded area of the PDF:

I hope this helps.

I can't get any highlighting to show up at all in my pdfs. Am I missing something?

Hi Laura,

You won’t see any highlighting in your PDF if either nothing in your PDF has been coded, or you have selected the option “Coding for Selected Items” and nothing in your PDF has been coded to the items you select.

You might find the following link helpful for using highlighting:

If you are still having difficulty, please fill out a support form at the following link.

Thanks. Unfortunately this is super awkward best as I can figure. In MS Word imports, if you select "Highlight Coding for All Nodes" they show up as you highlight, regardless of where you drag and drop. It seems that in the pdfs, you must go through steps 1) "highlight all" 2) pulls up screen and you have to select the nodes you want revealed. And 3) this has to be updated manually, so you don't have the option of seeing where you've already coded as you are moving through the document, if that makes sense.

Have I got this right, or is there a problem I should be seeking support on?

Laura

Hi Laura,

You should be able to select “Highlight Coding for All Nodes” when working with PDFs like you can when working with other documents. If you can’t select this option or if nothing is highlighted when you select this option and your PDF has been coded, please fill out a support form at the following link.
