Hello everyone,

Our research consists of analyzing the information disclosed by several companies. From each of them, we want to analyze the extent to which various TOPICS are disclosed, where (in what type of reports), who (different entities, CEOs...), how  and when (by years). Once this is done, we want to compare the results of each TOPIC, by companies, by type of report, by year, and so on.

We want to analyze, for example, TOPIC  1. I need to see this topic where it is:

- What report? (If it is Annual Report, CG Report, Sustainability Report ....)
- In what year is this topic further disclosed? (Year 1, year 2 ...?)
- Which company is most disclosed this topic? (Each of the 4 banks)
- And so on.

To avoid duplication, how should I set the topic and case nodes?

CASE NODES:

COMPANY  1 (parent)

                1.- Company 1_Year 1 (Child)

1.1. Report 1_Company  1_Year 1

1.1.1. TOPIC  1_Report 1_Company1_Year 1
               1.1.1. SUBTOPIC  A_Report 1_Company1_Year 1

1.1.2.  SUBTOPIC B_Report 1_Company1_Year 1

1.1.3.  SUBTOPIC C_Report 1_Company1_Year 1

1.2. TOPIC 2_Report 1_Company1_Year 1

1.2.1. SUBTOPIC  D_Report 1_Company1_Year 1

1.2.2.  SUBTOPIC E_Report 1_Company1_Year 1

1.2.3.  SUBTOPIC F_Report 1_Company1_Year 1

And so on for other companies...

or...

THEME NODES:

1. TOPIC 1 (parent)

1.1. SUBTOPIC 1
                1.1.1.- Company  1 (Child)

                1.1.1.1. YEAR 1

1.1.1.1. REPORT 1

1.1.1.2. REPORT 2

.....and so on for other topics...

Could you tell me how to organize the nodes to avoid duplicity?

Thank you very much.

Regards

Hello,

You may wish to look at using Classifications in NVivo 11 for Windows. NVivo has a Classification feature which can be used to store descriptive information about your sources or other cases in your project. You can then use this information to make comparisons or to gather material by attribute.

You can create attributes and assign them to cases. Attributes can be:
•    What report? (Attribute values can be Annual Report, CG Report, Sustainability Report ....)
•    In what year is this topic further disclosed? (Attribute values can be Year 1, year 2 ...?)
•    Which company is most disclosed this topic? (Attribute values can be each of the 4 banks)

Please refer to the below link for more information on how you can use this feature:

Hello Saamer,

Thanks for your answer.

I would like to know if the nodes were correctly created as indicated in the previous email, in order to be able to respond for each SUBJECT and SUBTEMA: the number of references by ENTITY, YEAR AND REPORT TYPE simultaneously.

Regards,

María Luisa
