  1. I am analyzing Facebook posts imported to Nvivo 11 Pro via NCapture; but only want posts created with a specific date range. Can I either limit the range of posts imported or delete those I don't need within Nvivo 11? I can filter my view of each set of posts; but not remove the redundant data.
  2. Hi, I try to capture a conversation from an open group I am a member of. Since there are several "sub-threads" Facebook automatically hides the replies to comments (the sub-threads) when you enter the conversation page. In previous versions of Nvivo (or maybe the change was in Facebook, I can't tell) I used to simply expand all sub-threads by clicking the "x replies" line, and then capture the conversation whole. Now when I try to do it, after I expand all sub-threads and click the NCapture icon, the page refreshes and reloads with all the sub-threads collapsed, which is what I end up capturing. Is there a way to solve this? Thanks, Oded
  3. Hello, I am importing comments from a YouTube video into NVivo using NCapture. The YouTube video has about 1600 comments, but when the data is imported, it's only showing about 1,000 (the number on the bottom). Is there a max number of comments that can be imported? Or is NVivo somehow eliminating comments (repeat commenters, etc)?
  4. New to Nvivo 11 completely. I have captured a number of days of Tweets using Ncapture and realized I have overstepped how much I want to analyse. I have imported the data into NVivo 11 using NCapture and just want to delete a few days worth of Tweets, is this possible to do? or will I have to manually go through it and uncode all the tweets that I do not want to analyse?
  5. Hello, I am a PhD and use NVivo for netnography (online ethnography) of forums. NVivo is great and so is Ncapture. However: Sugestion 1: ncapture enable to capture only 1 page at a time while some of the posts I work with can be 30 pages long. It would save me a lot of time if I could type in/ provide the URLs to Nvivo and the software would download all the pages I type in. I am not necessarily talking about thousands of pages - but a few dozens would help me a lot - and probably many other people working with online forums. Suggestion 2: when I capture several pages of a same thread, I need to fusion the pages into one pdf before I start coding my source. This requires to 1. import the webpages captured in ncapture format in nvivo 2. export the webpages as pdfs 3. merge the pdfs with a small app 4. import the merged pdf into nvivo. Again, that is quite type consuming and disheartening. I have not found any other solution and it would be great if you could create an "import multiple pages" and a "merge ncapture sources" functionality. Best, sibaiorb
  6. duplicate data collected

First time poster so I apologise if this has already been asked. I am collecting data off of Twitter using NCapture (with Nvivo Pro 11) across several different days and the NCapture has a few days in which the collection as overlapped. for example, I have collected Twitter data for a particular hashtag I am studying from August 1-24, I have done this in several stints as trying to use the advanced search function and cycle through over 2 weeks of data is very time consuming. in doing this I have realized that I accidentally collected parts of the same day twice and there may be some overlap of identical tweets. simply put, is there a way for me to check if there are duplicates? (without having to sift through thousands of tweets) or, more conveniently, is there a way for me to find the duplicates and delete them (like you can in Itunes for example).
  7. I have a set of html documents saved that I would like to upload into NVivo. The NCapture extension isn't working, I think because they aren't live websites. Is there any way I can get these documents into NVivo without having to convert formats?
  8. Hi - i am wondering when Nvivo for Mac will be able to work directly with youtube videos, facebook pages, etc. I find myself dealing with lots of youtube videos in particular. In lieu of NCapture being able to work these directly, are people using some sort of app/add on with their web browser to export videos, fbook pages, etc. and then important into Nvivo? thanks!
  9. I've been using NCapture (with Google Chrome) successfully for many months now, but just this week started getting an error : "Web page import as PDF failed because of a conversion problem" Seems to happen with any source document now. I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling NCapture - no change. Has anyone else encountered this error?
  10. Hi, using NCapture Chrome. I'm trying to grab as much as I can from a Facebook user's wall that is nominally public-facing. All I can seem to get are the most recent posts. When I change the timeline to a specific month or year and expand to all stories, or when I literally go through and expand the wall over and over until it shows 3 years of posts, NCapture doesn't recognize it. No matter what I do, the pdf that gets returned just shows the most recent--and the timeline bar corroborates that! In the grab it makes, the changes I made to the timeline bar are gone and it just shows "Recent" and "Highlights" again. Is there any way to have NCapture adjust to the timeline that is being shown when the capture is done? Thanks
  11. I'm doing a broad internet based research project. It goes something along the lines of - entering a few terms into a search engine and then analysing the content of the search. I'm quite aghast at how much work is involved in the initial stage of data collection. I have to document the searched results and why they would be picked for research or discarded. What I'd like to know is whether there's an elegant way of automating the compilation of the dataset using NVivo (like you can with twitter). Otherwise what I've done in the past (with more focused searches) is to use Excel for the initial stage of documenting and sifting through data, then NCapturing the relevant sources (from Excel links) to import into NVivo. This has worked fine for projects of up to 500 articles, but I'm looking at 500,000+ this time. Any pointers gratefully received - even if it's a case of using another software programme to do the documenting and sifting of data, and then using that to open only the relevant links to import only the relevant articles using NCapture. With thanks, Julia
  12. I've used NCapture with Google Chrome many times, but now I get an error, with any web page: "Web page import as PDF failed because of a conversion problem", In the print google Chrome the destination is in PDF file. I have tried several times to uninstall and reinstall without success. Please can I have some suggestions to solve the problem? Many thanks PacificoMari My computer: Toshiba, intel core i7-4600M; 2,90 GHz; 8 GB, 2,64 bit, with Windows 7 professional, service Pack 1.
  13. Hi, It is my first time using NCapture but I get this error when trying to capture Facebook posts. I have tried it over the weekends and early weekdays but still having problems. I have tried using NCapture for IE and Chrome but both has failed. It could be a problem with Facebook (when is the best time to capture?) or is there anything else that I might have forgotten? I am using NVivo 10.0.573.0 SP5 64-bit for Windows. Please help! Syahril
  14. Hello, I have installed NCapture on my chrome browser on my new mac. I noticed when I capture data from Twitter as a dataset using NCapture, NVivo10 for Mac does not recognize the .nvcx file type and I cannot import the captured dataset. Could you please fix this issue or explain to me what I am doing wrong and how to fix it. Many thanks Melissa
  15. Hello, When using NCapture, I understand that NVivo keeps a record of the captured webpage URL and date accessed in the attributes. I was wondering, however, if it is possible to have the URL and date/time accessed actually printed in the PDF that the webpage is created into. The reason for asking this is that some of the webpages I capture are used in papers that I write. When writing up a paper I must include in the citation the URL and date accessed. At the moment, this information is propriety to NVivo software. I want to also be able to export the webpage (as a PDF) with the above information included. It is just the same as the information that would be included when printing out a webpage from the web browser directly- whether that "print out" be a hardcopy or PDF "printout" using Primo or the default PDF print function on the Mac. Looking forward to your guidance. Cheers! Darren
  16. I mostly work on a mac, except for Nvivo. If I install Ncapture for Google Chrome on Mac- could I save the file to dropbox and then open in Nvivo on my PC? Anyone done this?
  17. Hello, I've imported the tweets from various twitter accounts. Each of them have 1000+ (even 10.000+) tweets, but NCapture stops at 442 tweets. Tried it again with Chrome with the same results. Therefore I've got the following questions four you: How many tweets get imported from an account that has thousands of tweets? Is there a time (last X days, weeks, etc.) or other limit? How can I get NCapture to export all tweets? Thanks, Patric
