  1. Hello, I have a dataset with 84 video sources, each representing a different study participant. I've coded these with two different 'categories' of nodes... 1) Section nodes (e.g. Section 1, section 2, etc) where the timeline is highlighted to divide the video into relevant parts; and 2) Event type nodes (e.g. increase temperature, decrease temperature, etc) to describe what the participant is doing at the time... event nodes occur throughout the video in all section. Currently, I am able to run a node matrix query with all 84 sources in the rows and my Event nodes in columns to summarize how many references to each node each participant has. What I'd like to do now is extract the data by the separate sections... i.e. in Section 1, how many times did each participant perform each event. Then the same for Section 2, and so on. Is it possible to filter the node matrix output by the occurrence of another node? Thanks for any help!
  2. I am trying to code my data to themes so I can see which themes are raised and how often. That is the easy part. However I need to be able to see which of these theme nodes that I have coded to are brought up by various specific denominations of my sources. I have similar and different themes being brought up by various different denominations of my data so thus far I have coded my data to one node per theme, opposed to coding it to one node per theme per denomination of data. To divide up my data into the different denominations I have coded all of my data to at least three nodes (rural or urban, after or before, and job title). So I can use a simple coding query to see all each of the different denominations of my data (for example all data that is rural, before, and management). But my issue is how can I bring up a node hierarchy that shows me all the different themes brought up by this specific denomination of my data. I need to be able to see a unique node hierarchy like this for all of my different denominations of my data. There will be over forty different themes brought up in my data so I would like a much more efficient and clear way of doing this than using a node matrix (because there are lots of empty cells in it). Using groups to do this may be useful but I cannot find a way of only allowing certain nodes to show up in a group. I am at the early stages of my project so if I need to be using a different approach to coding it is not too late for me to be using cases instead of certain nodes or something like that.
  3. Hello, I'm afraid I'm once again banging my head against my desktop. I'll try to explain as best I can what I'm trying to do, but if anything's unclear please ask below for further details (the answer may be in the details, after all). I have a classification of 'Value' where goods talked about can have either one of the following three attributes: 'High value', 'Medium value', and 'Low value' (not named 'budget' for consistency). I've already created a node matrix to see if any of the nodes are strongly correlated within the text. So for example, I have learnt that the node of 'staff costs' is strongly correlated with 'cost reduction' overall. I would now like to do this for each attribute (by each value of good) to see if, for example, high value goods have the 'marketing' node and the 'increased competition' node more strongly correlated than the low value goods, which may have 'market opportunity' strongly correlated with 'marketing'. Or even better, I'd like to see whether the 'staff costs' correlation with 'cost reduction' is only present in low value goods, and not in high or medium value goods. I've made the relationships up, but this is the kind of process I'm looking for Nvivo to do. Any hints? Thanks again! Julia
